SPECIAL EDITION

Hunger_Relief_2005-02-11.jpg

In our February newsletter we said this was going to be an awesome year.  Well, it started on February 11, 2005 with a meeting of Hunger Relief Organizations from all over Florida and Bob Houlihan, President of Compassion Alliance.  Compassion Alliance is a international hunger relief organization that is planning on bringing in tons of food for hunger relief organizations located in Florida.  Pastor John Strickland and The Volunteer Way sponsored this meeting in an effort to show solidarity and a network of food pantries and soup kitchens that will be able to handle all the food that will be brought into Florida for the nutritionally challenged.  We had a very exciting meeting and with no empty seats.  Because of the space available, we were not able to accommodate all the interested hunger relief organizations in Florida but we will bring all people that have a burden to help the less fortunate located in Florida into our network of hunger relief organizations.

They just
enjoy
helping
people

Thanks to people like Vic and Gerry who volunteer their time to help others. Vic and Gerry are members of Calvary Temple Church of God and when I asked them if they would help with this meeting, there was no doubt they would help because they have always been there when needed. This is what ministry is all about - being there to help people when they are in need.

Operation Blessing helping Hunger Relief

Operation Blessing has received a Faith Based Grant that is helping Hunger Relief organizations in Florida with grants for their pantries and soup kitchens. Operation Blessing and The Volunteer Way had a meeting in 2004 to explain the Faith Based Grant and how to apply. In January 2005, Operation Blessing asked The Volunteer Way to duplicate the grant application and to make sure all qualified agencies received a copy to fill out. This year some agencies will receive computer systems, walk-in refrigerator and freezers, pallet jacks and other huger relief equipment to better serve the nutritionally challenged of Florida.
