No USDA Commodities
The Volunteer Way Food Bank has not received any USDA commodities for one year because Sun Coast Harvest Food
Bank received the contract for Pasco and Hernando counties. We have been trying to solve our difficulties with Sun Coast for
a year now and things are no better now then a year ago. We now have Florida State mediating our differences and hopefully
this will be settled once and for all.
The big problem is that thousands of elderly, children and working poor that we serve did not receive USDA commodities
for the whole year. These disagreements should not affect hungry people from getting food. Food Banks and food pantries should
be all about helping the hungry people, that should be their only agenda.
Pray that this is resolved.

IT’S ALL ABOUT FEEDING THE HUNGRY!
If your charity has had simular problems:

These are troubled times
With all these natural disasters happening, all charities should be working together for the betterment
of their communities. This is why they are called a Charity.
Does this make sense?

On the brighter side
When we had hurricanes hit the Florida area, The Volunteer Way Food Bank donated 80,000 pounds of
food to help the victims. Then we partnered with United Way and had our tractor trailers pick up donated furniture from Saddle
Brooks Resort and donated the furniture to hurricane victims plus other charities in Pasco County.
When Katrina hit, we were there with diapers, depends, food, personal items, toilet paper and
other paper goods. We filled one and a half trucks of the four trucks sent to Gulf Port, Mississippi.
The Volunteer Way is not just a food bank but we have many different outreaches to serve the
different communities. We are there for all underserved people of Florida.
