The Volunteer Way Newsletter

The year 2007 is off to a great start.  We have hired a grant writer to write grants for us this year.  We hope to write successful grants to bring into Florida millions of pounds of food to start more soup kitchens and food pantries.  Many of Florida’s poverty areas do not have local pantries or soup kitchens because the faith-based and community charities do not have funds to pay fees to receive food to distribute to the needy of their communities.  There are very few food banks that give free food to soup kitchens and food pantries, which causes faith-based and community hunger relief charities to close their doors to the nutritionally challenged or they never open their doors to the hungry families in their community.  The Volunteer Way never charged any fees for the 5,000,000 pounds of food we distributed last year throughout Florida.  We need more food banks that serve the needy instead of the bottom line.

The last four months of 2006, we had many soup kitchens and food pantries sign up to receive food from our food bank.  Unfortunately, we had to put them on a waiting list.  Some of the pantries were pantries we served in the past and they could not afford to keep paying for the food they were receiving, so they asked us if they could start to receive food from us again.  We are hurting for food for our hunger relief partners but we have decided to take a step of faith and told all the new pantries they can start to pick up food starting February 2007.

We have faith that 2007 will be the busiest year we have had sense we started in 1992.  We hope to ship truck loads of food and personal items throughout Florida to help pantries in poverty areas to assist the needy of their communities.  For years I would pray and ask God what His vision was for The Volunteer Way and the answer was always, “THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING”.  Two weeks ago while attending church services, God place His vision for The Volunteer Way on my heart.  God’s vision for The Volunteer Way is “We will open food banks throughout Florida and also throughout the United States to help faith-based and community hunger relief organizations that can not afford to pay for food to give to the hungry people of their communities.

This is a very ambitious agenda, but I serve a AWESOME GOD and He will meet our needs and bring the right people together to accomplish His plan.  I don’t know God’s time but I know His timing is  perfect.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR HE HAS DONE GREAT THINGS!
