Dear Friends of The Volunteer Way, We are building a better life for the less fortunate!
We have been given the opportunity to serve Moon Lake community, which we know to be an area where many people are living in poverty. At the present time we have so many program that serve the underserved throughout Central Florida, but we can not let this opportunity go by. We have been given property with strip stores, that will give us a place where people can come and pick up groceries, sandwich and a safe place to go.
We will also be filling out applications for food stamps for those that qualify. We are also thinking about two other ministries that would help the teens in Moon Lake area.
There is going to be some expenses in fixing up some of the stores and getting the electric and water turned on. If you can help, we would appreciate any help you could give us.
GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING
With all the great programs we have to serve the under served of Pasco, we are still going forward to make sure no one is left behind. The following are some of our events and new programs we are doing.
• Free pancake and sausage breakfast every first Saturday of the month. We serve between 400 and 500 people. Sponsored by IHOP and Knights of Columbus.
• Cotee River Bike Fest 2009, we will have a food drive at this event.
• 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament
• We are starting to work closer with West Pasco Chamber of Commerce and Greater New Port Richey Main Street. These relationships will help us to serve more hurting families of our communities.
• We are receiving property with stores in Moon Lake and we will have a food pantry, soup kitchen, thrift store and a place to fill out for food stamps. This is a great opportunity, we will be using that property for more programs, that will be announced in the near future.
At the present we are assiting most food pantries, soup kitchens, and other charities with food, depends, diapers and other personal items, all free of any fees. There is still a lot of work to be done.
