Resent reports indicate that we will be experiencing very difficult times for the next few years. Our children and elderly will suffer the most. We have seen children and their parents, sleeping in the woods or in their vehicles. This is totally unacceptable and very unsafe for the mothers and their children. Things will get a lot worse, before they start to get better. We need our community to work together to make sure no child or elderly person goes hungry or is sleeping in the woods. The Volunteer Way Inc. is a faith-based charitable organization that serves the least fortunate people of our society. We assist over 19,000 families a month with food, personal items, depends, diapers and a kind word. Just in Pasco County we serve more than 9,000 families, 30 food pantries and 28 different charities. All our assistance is without any fees. We are presently experiencing difficulty obtaining food for our hungry children and their families. We started thinking outside the box to come up with more creative ways for obtaining food and funds to meet the ever growing needs facing people who are caught in poverty. One of our new programs is Hydroponics Farming, which is a renewable and sustainable source of good nutritional food. We have 6.89 acres of property where we are going to grow fresh vegetables. With hydroponic farming, we can grow twenty (24) vegetable plants in an area that one plant would be planted in the soil. The initial costs for material and equipment to start hydroponic farming are high, but all equipment can be reused for ten (10) years. Our "Kids Against Hunger Program" is a family affair. Parents and their children collect food from their communities and donate the food to The Volunteer Way. Businesses put our plastic barrels in their business location to collect food from their employees and customers and donate the food to The Volunteer Way Food Bank. The Volunteer Way furnishes all flyers, barrels and training to conduct your food drive. We desperately need your help to run a food drive, fundraiser or to make a donation towards our hydroponic farm. "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter" |
