VICTORY GARDENS

The Volunteer Way Newsletter

VICTORY GARDENS

During World War Two we all worked together and helped each other. Our government started "VICTORY GARDENS" to help feed our families. Food was very scarce, so we had to grow our own vegetables. All the factories and citizens worked together for the war effort. I remember in school, all the students had projects to help with the war effort also. That was a country working together, if we could repeat that same effort today, there is nothing we couldn't overcome.

I believe we are starting in very tuff times and if we don't start to work together as during World War Two, we are going to see a lot of people going without food for their families. There has never been a Country like the United States and probably never will be. We are still Americans and still the greatest people on this earth, so why aren't we acting like Americans? We can overcome anything, by working together for the common good of all.

Farming for hunger, is going well, we are clearing our 6.89 acres of property to start our Hydroponic Farming. We will be able to feed thousands of families each month with what we will be able to harvest from this site. We are trying to rally our community, to be part of this very exciting project. Many youth groups are volunteering to help with planting and harvesting of the vegetables.

The Hydroponic Farm we have in the rear of our warehouse is doing great, we can almost see the tomatoes and lettuce growing. I never seen plants grow so fast and so big. If this is any sign of what to expect when we plant the vegetable on our 6.89 acres, we will have enough food for all the food pantries and soup kitchens we serve. We will also have enough food for the 8,000 families that come to our food bank for help.

God has Blessed The Volunteer Way with these 6.89 acres of property to feed the less fortunate of our society. I get so excited when I see the Hand of God working in our ministry. We are so Blessed that God allows us to serve Him in this awesome outreach.

"KIDS AGAINST HUNGER FOOD DRIVES"

Kids against hunger is our food drive program, which brings in thousands of pounds of food into our food bank. A food drive is a great community activity for businesses, civic associations, schools, neighborhood leaders, clubs and youth groups. Kids Against Hunger will furnish all the flyers and other needed paper work. If you or your place of employment want to assist the hungry families of Pasco County, please contact us at 727-815-0433, lester@thevolunteerway.org
