The Volunteer Way Food Bank serves Pasco County’s low-income families with a food
box once a month. At the end of February 2007, our food bank has 3,965 families signed up for a food box to help their
family. Each month we get more new people signing up for help. We also have food pantries and soup kitchen coming
to our food bank for free food to distribute to hungry people in their communities. In February, 2007, we distributed
245,000 pounds of food to hungry people of Florida at no cost to hunger relief charities or the many families coming to us
for help.
The Volunteer Way Food Bank gives all its food free of any fees. Most Food Banks
charge for their food (oops, sorry, they don’t charge for food, they charge handling fees and transportation fees).
The bottom line is, you do not get out of their food bank without paying MONEY.
Some food banks have told me that they are a business. What happened to food banks that were charities? Some
of these people that run 501-c-3 charities should look up what the dictionary says the word charity means.
This world we live in today is completely opposite of the world I grew up in. What
was right when I grew up is now wrong and what was wrong when I grew up is now right. You had people that cared about
other people and now it’s all about, “what’s in it for me”? Maybe I’m too old and have
too many old-fashioned ideas because I still think there is a difference between right and wrong. When will the good
people of our country say, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, and stop going down this selfish road we are on?
