WHAT'S HAPPENING IN 2006?

A vision of people helping people

God is still in control!

Why is it, as mortals, we think we always know best and we know it all? I seem to fight that every day of my life. We forget that God has everything under control and He has a plan.

Before I became a Christian, I knew that I knew everything and I was smarter then anyone else. After I became a Christian, over a period of time I started to realize how little I really knew, and once I learned that, I started to gain knowledge.

I Pray that in 2006 we all learn to get along with each other and start thinking of the less fortunate people of our society. In 2006, I will start thinking about other people and not believe that it is all about ME.

BE BLESSED

“TOMORROW YOU MAY NEED OUR HELP,
TODAY WE NEED YOUR HELP”
A vision for 2006!

The Volunteer Way has been serving the communities of Florida for fourteen years this year and we have expanded  each year. This year will not be any different.
The following are some of the plans we have to expand  this year:

(1) Build an additional  5,000 square foot building.

(2) Expand the area that we serve to include more counties in Florida.

(3) Find new source of perishable and non–perishable food.

(4) Find new sources of funds.

(5) Open our Brown Bag Program in other Counties in Florida.

(6) Build on our networking system to include other states.

Thanks to your support, we serve 15,000 families.

Churches are closing their food pantries and soup kitchens for lack of funds. We have not received our share of U.S.D.A. commodities for over one year. The department of agriculture has just now finished their report for the complaint we summated to them. The outcome was that we have the right to give U.S.D.A. commodities to faith based food pantries and soup kitchen that do not have a 501-c-3 determination letter. This was the way it has always been but Sun Coast Harvest Food Bank, which received the contract for commodities for Pasco County did not want to give us U.S.D.A. Commodities for faith based charities that did not have a 501-c-3 letter. This is now resolved, now we are waiting for our contract to receive U.S.D.A. Commodities from Suncoast Harvest Food Bank. In the mean time, hundreds of hungry people that rely on The Volunteer Way and our agencies for help are going without U.S.D.A. Commodities.

“IT’S ALL ABOUT FEEDING HUNGRY PEOPLE”

On the brighter side

When we had hurricanes hit the Florida area, The Volunteer Way Food Bank donated 80,000 pounds of food to help the victims. Then we partnered with United Way and had our tractor trailers pick up donated furniture from Saddlebrook Resort and donated that furniture to hurricane victims plus other charities in Pasco County.

When Katrina hit, we were there with diapers, depends, food, personal items, toilet paper and other paper goods. We filled one and a half trucks of the four trucks sent to Gulf Port, Mississippi.

The Volunteer Way is not just a food bank.  We have many different outreaches to serve hurting people of our communities. We are there for all underserved people of Florida. These are troubled times with all the natural disasters happening. Charities should be working together for the betterment of all people, “that’s why they call them charities”.
