Dear partners in the struggle to end hunger in our communities,
We have to realize that the face of hunger is changing. Now we are seeing the working poor coming to us for assistance
with food for their families. Sometimes there are two people working in the family and still do not have enough food
to feed their families.
To compound their problem, food is getting very hard to aquire. Every food bank in the United States is having a very
hard time bringing food to their food banks to meet the ever growing need. U.S.D.A. Commodities have all but dried up, and
looks like it is going to get worse before it gets better. We are now assisting 6,000 families in Pasco County and 17,000
families each month throughout Florida. Because we are the only food bank in Pasco County that does not charge fees for
the food we give to food pantries and soup kitchens, most food pantries and soup kitchens come to us for food for their
hunger relief outreach. This year we will reach 6,000,000 pounds of food distributed.
We need to find new sourses of food to distribute or many food pantries and soup kitchens will have to close their
doors to the hungry.
"KIDS AGAINST HUNGER"
Kids Against Hunger is families working together to help less fortunate families feed their families. We go into different
communities and train Block Captains to have food drives and donate the food and funds to The Volunteer Way Food Bank. This
is a new program. but it is already sucessful. The first two months we collected 4,000 pounds of food and $500.00, which we
used 100% to bring more food into our food bank. We hope to repeat these food drives throughout Pasco County and then train
other hunger relief organizations in other counties to duplicate what we accomplished.
