Loneliness and Hunger effects the quality of life for our senior citizens !
Brown Bag Program
With the aging of our population, increased attention is needed for our low income, homebound elderly in our communities. Adequate nutrition is critical to health, functioning and the quality of life of our seniors. Our Brown Bag Program helps improve the dietary intake of our participants and offers opportunities to form new friendships and create a supportive network.
Our Brown Bag Program helps our citizens that are the most vulnerable in our society, our elderly. Many of our seniors are receiving less than $700.00 per month, and after they pay rent and utilities, there is not enough money to pay for food, doctors, medicines and other necessities. T.V.W. delivers 40 to 60 pounds of food every third week of the month so that they will have enough food until they receive their Social Security checks the first of the month.
Many times when we deliver these boxes of food to our homebound elderly we find that because of their physical condition they are not able to keep their homes clean. T.V.W. has a cleaning service that goes to these homes and cleans them and goes back once a month to keep the home in good condition.
We also assist the mentally handicapped with food and other necessities. Each month the mentally handicapped come to our warehouse and help us with packing the boxes of food for the elderly and at the same time they fix a box for themselves and take that box home with them.
Help us continue to bring food to the low-income homebound elderly.
